OfflineI've done quite a bit of reading but I still cannot find a solid answer to the requirements for what has to be sent in an ADS-B out transmission in the case of a UAT freq. transmission and in the case of an ES freq. transmission (I understand which one is chosen is a matter of altitude, preference, etc.). Can someone explain when transmitting EITHER UAT or ES, what all is required? In other words, please let me know if I am correct or wrong on the following point:
1) When you transmit ADS-B out (either a UAT or ES transmission), the transmission must be accompanied by 2 additional pieces of information:
a) with UAT or ES, you have to send pressure altitude from a single source (you can't be broadcasting transponder altitude and then send some other variant of altitude from another in-plane source through ADS-B). This single source of altitude can be provided by an ADS-B out Mode S transponder (in the case of ES), or it can be provided by your ADS-B out equipment grabbing transponder data (sniffing or wireless intercept of older Mode S (for ES) or Mode C (for UAT)).
b) The other piece of information required is data from a certified WAAS GPS position source. I don't know if this will be required in both ES and UAT cases, or only ES. What is correct?
To that end, will the SkyGuardTWX devices, when certified, also inlcude in that certification, a certified WAAS GPS position source?

Question:
With UAT or ES, you have to send pressure altitude from a single source. This can be provided by an ADS-B out Mode S transponder (in the case of ES), or it can be provided by ADS-B out equipment grabbing transponder data (sniffing or wireless intercept of older Mode S (for ES) or Mode C (for UAT)). Is this correct?
Answer:
Yes, this is correct. Our new models Vision-Pro Plus get this info from a Mode C Transponder by listening to it’s transmission of the pressure altitude code to the local ground radar station.
Question:
The other piece of information required is data from a certified WAAS GPS position source. I don't know if this will be required in both ES and UAT cases, or only ES. What is correct?
Answer:
Yes, for a certified ADS-B Transmitter(UAT or ES), it will need to get it’s position data from a certified position source.
Question:
To that end, will the WAAS GPS position source in the SkyGuardTWX device be certified when the unit is?
Answer:
Yes, it will have to be in order for the SkyGuardTWX unit to also be certified by the FAA.
Thanks Don!
